The history of Famy traces back to 1612 when home seekers from Daraitan in Tanay first explored its rich natural resources. These early settlers named the place Calumpang, after a large shady calumpang tree (Sterculia foetida) that stood at the heart of the settlement.
For centuries, Calumpang remained a barrio under the jurisdiction of nearby Siniloan. It was a quiet, agrarian community nestled against the western foothills of the Sierra Madre mountain range, sustained by farming, fishing in the rivers, and harvesting forest resources.
Renamed in Honor of Aguinaldo
On February 13, 1899, the barrio of Calumpang was renamed Famy — a name taken from the maternal lineage of General Emilio Aguinaldo, the first President of the Philippine Republic. At that historical moment, Aguinaldo was leading the revolutionary government, and the renaming was a tribute to his leadership during the Philippine-American War.
Becoming an Independent Municipality
Despite the renaming, Famy remained a barrio of Siniloan. Its residents, determined to govern themselves, petitioned the Governor-General for independence. They pledged to build a municipal hall and school buildings at their own expense, asking for no government salary in return.
Their persistence paid off. By virtue of Executive Order No. 60, Series of 1910, the Governor-General formally separated Famy from Siniloan. The order took effect on August 15, 1910, officially establishing Famy as an independent municipality.
Geography & Natural Wealth
Famy lies in the northeastern corner of Laguna Province, along the Manila East Road. It is bounded by Siniloan to the east and south, Santa Maria to the north, and Mabitac and Santa Maria to the west. The municipality covers 20 barangays and is home to the slopes of Mount Romelo — a mountain that harbors more than 20 waterfalls within its verdant terrain.
Today
With a population of approximately 17,668 (2024 Census), Famy is the least populated municipality in Laguna Province. Its small-town character, clean environment, and spectacular natural attractions make it a quiet gem in CALABARZON — increasingly discovered by eco-tourists, hikers, and nature lovers seeking an escape from urban life.

1. Getting to Famy, Laguna
Depending on where you are coming from, you have several options:
From Manila: Go to Legarda (near Arellano University) and take a Van or Bus bound for Famy.
From Calamba: Catch a Van at SM Calamba that is headed to Famy.
From Lucena (Quezon): Take an AH Bus bound for Infanta and get off at the town of Famy.
By Car: Simply search for "Famy, Laguna" on Waze or Google Maps.
2. Reaching the Jump-off Point
Once you arrive at the Famy town center:
Tricycle Ride: Hire a tricycle to take you to the Brgy. Cuevang Bato basketball court.
Short Walk: From the court, walk until you see the Welcome Sign for Brgy. Cuevang Bato on your right side.
Find the Info Area: Turn right and continue walking until you see a small hut (the Information Area).
3. The Trek to the Falls
From the Information Area, follow the trail down. It is a scenic 15 to 20-minute walk to reach the water.
